Using ChatGPT with Just My Socks: Server Support and Configuration Guide

Just My Socks (JMS) has provided support for ChatGPT across both its Shadowsocks and V2Ray-based servers.

JMS originally announced ChatGPT connectivity in April 2023, followed by support for the ChatGPT iOS application later that year. In most cases, no special configuration is required, although some V2Ray clients operating in VPN mode may need additional settings.

This guide explains the typical setup and troubleshooting process.

Shadowsocks Servers

JMS Shadowsocks servers such as:

  • s1
  • s2

can be used to access ChatGPT.

For most users, the setup is straightforward. Import the JMS server configuration into a compatible Shadowsocks client, connect to the server, and make sure your browser or application is using the proxy.

No ChatGPT-specific configuration is normally required.

If ChatGPT does not load while other websites work normally, try switching to another JMS server or checking whether your proxy client is routing the required traffic correctly.

V2Ray Servers

Some Just My Socks plans include V2Ray-based servers, including servers such as:

  • s3
  • s4
  • s5
  • s801

These servers can also be used with ChatGPT.

The required configuration depends mainly on how your V2Ray client handles network traffic.

Proxy Mode

Desktop applications that operate through a system proxy generally require no additional ChatGPT configuration.

If your browser is already using the proxy and the JMS server is connected correctly, ChatGPT should normally work without further changes.

VPN Mode

Some Android V2Ray clients create a local VPN connection to route traffic from applications.

In this environment, ChatGPT may occasionally fail even though other websites continue to work.

If this happens, look for settings similar to:

  • Enable Traffic Sniffing
  • Append HTTP Proxy to VPN
  • Override Destination

The exact wording varies between applications and versions.

These options help the client correctly identify and route traffic that might otherwise bypass or conflict with the proxy configuration.

JMS has previously tested this type of configuration with clients including:

  • v2rayNG
  • NekoBox
  • SagerNet

DNS Configuration

If the connection works for general websites but ChatGPT remains inaccessible after adjusting the V2Ray settings, DNS may also be worth checking.

JMS previously recommended trying the following DNS address inside the VPN configuration:

172.31.255.2

This should generally be treated as a troubleshooting step rather than a mandatory configuration.

Start with the default settings and only change the DNS if ChatGPT is not working while the rest of the proxy connection appears normal.

Shadowrocket on iPhone and iPad

For iOS users, Shadowrocket is one of the simpler ways to use a JMS connection.

After importing the JMS node into Shadowrocket, the default configuration is normally sufficient for accessing ChatGPT.

You generally do not need to enable the additional V2Ray-specific options described above.

If ChatGPT does not work, try reconnecting the proxy, switching JMS servers, or checking the routing mode in Shadowrocket.

Troubleshooting ChatGPT Connectivity

If ChatGPT is unavailable after connecting to Just My Socks, the following troubleshooting order can help identify the issue.

First, verify that the JMS connection itself is working by opening other international websites.

Next, try another JMS server if your subscription provides multiple nodes.

If you are using an Android V2Ray client in VPN mode, check traffic sniffing and destination override settings.

If the issue continues, test the JMS DNS address:

172.31.255.2

Finally, compare different environments, such as the ChatGPT website and mobile app, or Wi-Fi and mobile data.

This can help determine whether the issue is related to the JMS server, the proxy application, DNS resolution, or the local network.

Summary

Just My Socks has supported ChatGPT through both Shadowsocks and V2Ray servers.

For a typical Shadowsocks connection, no special ChatGPT configuration is required.

V2Ray users running their client in VPN mode may occasionally need to enable traffic sniffing or destination override features. DNS changes can also be tested when the connection works generally but ChatGPT does not.

For iOS users running Shadowrocket, the default JMS configuration is usually enough.
